I am searching for my maternal grandfathers war medals from WWII. His name was Herbert Norman James HICKEY

His Active Service Badge No: A25328

The medals I am trying to locate are the Australian Service Medal, the War Medal 1939-1945 and the 1939-1945 Star.

I'm uncertain if there are others, naturally I would love to have them all. Their last known whereabouts was at Newtown, in the possession of my grandfathers companion, Eileen,(surname not now known) at the time of his death in September 1970.

Eileen herself would now be passed on but I recall she had a son, Ronnie, who may have all the possessions she had with her at that time, which may well include the medals.

  • A few years ago, one of our comrades brought in a Queens South Africa Medal and on the edge was inscribed "Pte F.B.L. Watson, NS Wales MR".
It was found in a garbage in the 1950's in Victoria, British Columbia.
  • I believe it belonged to Frederick Leo Bowen Watson, who served with the 2 New South Wales Mounted Rifles.
He was born in 1881 in Bombala, New South Wales and he was an electrician.
I found that information at this link:

  • After the Boer War, I think that he moved to Canada and fought with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.
