Board of Enquiry Update, 7 April 2017

Dear Members,

Please see below an update from the Caretaker Management Team regarding the Board of Enquiry.

Any questions regarding this update can be sent to ANZAC House via

Yours sincerely,

Chief Operating Officer
Assistant State Secretary

The Returned and Services League of Australia (NSW Branch)

The Caretaker Management Team has been working through a number of issues that have been identified in relation to the powers of the Board of Enquiry to investigate the current issues relating to State Branch.

As previously stated, State Branch is committed to thoroughly investigating all issues identified in the Korda Mentha report, whether they relate to RSL NSW, RSL LifeCare or any other relevant entity.

Our legal team has recently identified a number of obstacles in a Board of Enquiry established under our Constitution, which would significantly impede that investigative process. For that reason, based on legal advice a request has been made today to the Hon Matt Kean MP, the relevant Minister under the charities legislation and the Hon David Elliott MP, NSW Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, to give the Hon Ian Callinan AC additional powers to deal with the identified short comings. If that request is granted we expect to get this investigation underway without any further delay.

The purpose for this extraordinary step is to allow the members of RSL NSW, the NSW Government and the public to have confidence in both the conduct and the outcome of the investigation.
